Maleic Anhydride Technology

Maleic Anhyride is used primarily in formation of Unsaturated Polyester Resins (UPRs), 1-4, Butanediol (BDO), polymeric material, alkyd and polymeric resins, synthetic fiber, fumaric acid, maleic acid, tetrahydrofuran (THF), lube oil adhesive, to make co-polymer, pesticides, artificial sweetener, flavour enhancer, paper sizing, detergents, water treatment chemicals, hair spray, and pharmaceuticals. It is widely applied in the preparation of certain agricultural chemicals. MA is a basic chemical used in automotive, shipbuilding, paint and varnish, construction, agricultural chemistry and other industries. Maleic anhydride is used for many other applications, too, and notably for producing water-soluble polymers and lubricants.

Maleic Anhydride is mature, while application areas of this chemical are well-formed and stable. However, the development of the new Maleic Anhydride-based products is underway.

Manufacturing Technologies
Maleic anhydride (MA) is produced commercially by the oxidation of benzene or n-butane. With n-butane feedstock, MA could be produced in fixed bed or fluid bed reactors. The benzene-based MA is economically less attractive than the n-butane feedstock, especially when benzene price is high.
